Hi, I just finished my freshman year of college and I'm majoring in biology. I failed my chemistry class and got a D in my math class. I will be retaking both next semester. How do dental schools view retakes and how do they incorporate this into GPA and application?

Hello,
I am a senior in undergrad at a private institution. The subjects that are known to be on the DAT are subjects that I will not take until this year. Although my goal is to become a Dentist, I volunteer at an dentist office and I am dedicated to all the work that is needed to reach my goal of becoming a dentist. I was thinking of taking a year off to prepare for the DAT. But everyone that's in the dentistry field say that it's not a good idea because the dental schools that I will be applying for will be looking to see if I can handle the hard classes. But I don't want to take the DAT and don't receive a score that's acceptable to any of the schools l will decide to apply for . You think I'm going about everything in the wrong way? How was your senior year of undergrad?

How much is tuition for all four years at Meharry? I want to be a dentist but I'll be a fool if I told you that money doesn't worry me. I've heard dental students graduating from school with 400k+ in debt and I honestly don't think that it's worth it if that's the case! I want to love my career not be a slave to it and I'm trying to find as many cheap dental school as possible.

Hi Sarah,
I'm going into my junior year of college and my major is Psychology with a concentration in Nursing but I just decided that I want to pursue Dentistry. I know changing my major could possibly put me back for graduation and I'm not on any scholarship so I am taking out a loan to attend my private college. I want to know if changing my major to Pre-dentistry is a smart move financially? Dental school is already expensive and I already have undergraduate debt to worry about! I can admit that in high school I didn't take my education as seriously as I should've but now that I'm in college I've turned over a new leaf and my grades are great. If I continued with nursing I would graduate on time and have less debt but dental has always been in the back of my mind. Does Meharry give scholarships and what kind of stats do I needin order to obtain a scholarship? Is the scholarship yearly or will it cover my entire 4 years? How much is tuition at Meharry?

Are there any other careers you would recommend besides dental that pays well with less debt? Where is your dream place to live after dental school? I love dental but I'm also looking into other career options and 300K in debt is a lot not including interest and undergraduate debt. What's the point of making a lot of money if you can't enjoy it and my OBGYN told me that not ever doctor is "balling" and she works her ass off for every single dime! Of course money is not my primary reason for pursing dentistry but I'll be lying in I said it didn't play a factor in my decision and what's the point of doing 8+ years of school to not make a good income? When a doctor tells me that point didn't play a factor in their career choice I instantly think their lying. ðŸ˜

Do you plan to specialize after you graduate from dental school? What is your dream place to live after dental school and dream car? I don't plan on specializing as of now, I do however want to do a GPR program. My dream place to live would be somewhere where I can have a lot of land and a few horses! Im not into cars that much but wouldn't mind a nice luxury car to drive around in one day! - Dentist Bae

For example if you do a GPR residency program in a hospital you are more likely to be paid rather then if you did one through a school. The most competitive speciality is dentistry is Orthodontics. -Dentist Bae

The key is being smart when you graduate and choose a good plan to pay back your loans. 300K does sound overwhelming but every dentist/doctor has that debt. What you do after you graduate is what makes a difference. Hope this helps! -Dentist Bae

Hi Sarah!
Do you think the end of August through mid September is too late to submit your DAT if you've already submitted your application? Also, when did you get notified that you were accepted into Meharry'a MHS program?

Greetings Ms. Anna, OK so bottom line I think if dentistry is what you want to do you should go for it!!! Debt is a scary thought but I also think that pursuing something you don't really want to do is scarier! I am not 100% sure on scholarships, however I know there are a lot of them. I don't think there are any to cover all of your tuition unless you receive a full scholarship before applying. Tuition varies per year, but approximately 50-60k a year. Congrats on your good grades and keep of the good work! -Dentist Bae

Also, when did you get notified that you were accepted into Meharry'a MHS program? No! I submitted my DAT score the first time I applied in november and got an interview for MHS program. I want to say around march or april I was notified about MHS but I need to double check on that! Never hurts to apply! School also see how many times someone applies so if you keep applying each year they see that you really want it. - Dentist Bae
