How much is tuition for all four years at Meharry? I want to be a dentist but I'll be a fool if I told you that money doesn't worry me. I've heard dental students graduating from school with 400k+ in debt and I honestly don't think that it's worth it if that's the case! I want to love my career not be a slave to it and I'm trying to find as many cheap dental school as possible. Tuition details are found on the website here >>>> www.mmc.edu/prospectivestudents/tuition-and-fees/docs/201516sodtuitionfees.pdf

Hello, I am a senior in undergrad at a private institution. The subjects that are known to be on the DAT are subjects that I will not take until this year. Although my goal is to become a Dentist, I volunteer at an dentist office and I am dedicated to all the work that is needed to reach my goal of becoming a dentist. I was thinking of taking a year off to prepare for the DAT. But everyone that's in the dentistry field say that it's not a good idea because the dental schools that I will be applying for will be looking to see if I can handle the hard classes. But I don't want to take the DAT and don't receive a score that's acceptable to any of the schools l will decide to apply for . You think I'm going about everything in the wrong way? How was your senior year of undergrad? They are right about handling the course load. There are ways to study for the exam without the knowledge you will get from classes in school. I didn't learn ANYTHING from my organic chemistry teachers in college and was completely self taught and that was one of my highest scores. I suggest these tools for you 1. DAT bootcamp 2. CHADS videos 3. Kaplan tests (harder then the real thing) 4. Find a study buddy who is also taking DAT. I suggest taking the DAT when you are ready but don't stop school! Its a process but trust in it! YOU GOT IT. -Dentist Bae

Hi, I just finished my freshman year of college and I'm majoring in biology. I failed my chemistry class and got a D in my math class. I will be retaking both next semester. How do dental schools view retakes and how do they incorporate this into GPA and application? I retook two classes in college, they didn't bring them up in my interview but I have heard that they say it shows you are dedicated and have the ability to excel. I don't see anything wrong with it and it will boost your GPA. - Dentist Bae.

Do I have to be good in math and science in order to apply to dental school? I'm not bad in those subjects but I'm not the best either and how does Meharry feel about retaking courses? I have to retake Organic Chemistry and Calculus so I wonder will my first grade be shown on my transcript. I think it depends on college, but both of my grades showed up on my transcript however the A would replace C for example so my GPA went up. Im not sure how they feel exactly but retaking a class shows you have an ability to master it. I don't see anything wrong with that. I retook two classes. - Dentist Bae.

Can I apply to dental and medical school? I like both fields and I've already taken the MCAT but I'm thinking about taking the DAY too. Yes you can. However I believe on you application you need to say if you have applied to other schools. I also think they do take note of that. You should just put 100% into what you really want to do!! Although having backup options never hurts! - Dentist Bae

Do dental students have rotations similar to medical students? Do you get to learn about all the different specialties? Yes and no. Each dental school is different. We do have experience in each speciality though. The time in each differs per school. For example we don't get that much exposure to ortho for example. Most people know before this if they want to specialize though and their experience in dental school doesn't determine if they can specialize. - Dentist Bae

How do you manage your finances in dental school and do you know how much tuition is for all four years at Meharry? Does Meharry give scholarships and how many? Managing financies is crucial. I didn't have to pay for undergrad so I had some wiggle room there. Meharry does have scholarships and there are plenty outside of school you can apply for. The tuition is listed here : www.mmc.edu/prospectivestudents/tuition-and-fees/docs/201516sodtuitionfees.pdf- Dentist Bae

Paying for dental school after graduation seems impossible with $250k worth of loans (avg dental school debt). How will a dentist manage to pay that off and live a 'dentist lifestyle'? Very good question. They don't tell you this but when you graduate dental school you still need to live like a college student for a few years because of the fact you need to repay back your loans. it is not impossible, almost every professional has to do it. - Dentist Bae

Is it a good idea to apply to dental hygiene school before dental school and get some dental experience?

Do you plan to own your own practice, become an associate dentist or work in corporate dentistry?

Is it a good idea to apply to dental hygiene school before dental school and get some dental experience? I would say no. You get everything you need in dental school. Dental school is already long enough!

Hello, would you say you have to like science to be a dentist? I am not a science or math person but I've always wanted to be a dentist. I'm not sure if I should pursue it when I know I am going to suffer in science classes.
